Pat Veldhoven – Communion Message

Communion Message 06-May-2018

How can we describe our relationship with God?

It is like a house with different rooms for different purposes.

First there is the living room; it is like the place we relax with God. Where we meet together after the days work and talk things over . . . or at least we could if we turned off the TV, phone and computer.

  1. Psalm 127 (NLT) Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted.
  2. 1 Corinthians 6:19 (NIV) Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;
  3. This means that when I try to build a life through working hard without God it becomes a life not worth living, I need to include God into every aspect of my life including my relationships, so He can be the builder.

Next there are the laundry, bathroom and toilet areas; yes it can be a delicate area. This is where we clean and air the dirty linen, where we get our sins washed away; they could even be flushed away. You could even say it’s where we clean up our act with God.

  1. Matthew 4:17 (NLT) From then on Jesus began to preach, “Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.”
  2. Repentance is an intentional change or turning away from sin and turning to God; from wanting to sin; to not wanting to sin.

Then there is ”the bedroom”, and this is where we can be intimate with God, where we can relate personally. A place of tears and love, where all our emotions are employed and we face God as we are.

  1. Matthew 6:6 (NIV) But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
  2. I want to be able to discern his voice and feel love for him in my heart, in order to achieve this I have to desire God; to know the Lord is to have a sense of desperation for fellowship with him. He has become my daily bread. He is not apriority; he is the

Lastly there is the dining room and kitchen, where we feed ourselves for the days service. Food for the journey - This is what the early Christians called the Lords Supper - “food for the journey” - nourishment for the time ahead when things get hard, and we feel drained of energy.

  1. John 6:33 (NIV) Jesus said “God's bread is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
  2. 2 Corinthians 9:8 (NIV) And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
  3. Jesus taught us to pray, saying, “Give us this day our daily bread” He was talking about all the food necessary for my sustenance, and then in John 6:48 He says, “I AM the Bread of Life,” He is saying, I am all you need for to keep you alive.

Prayer

We thank you Jesus, for you promised that in your father’s house there are many rooms, and you have gone to prepare them for us, help us Father God to live this life on earth as it is in heaven, so that we can be with you now and when our time here is finished.

Communion

Matthew 26: 26-28 As they were eating, Jesus took some bread. He thanked God for it, and broke it, and gave it to his followers and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” Then Jesus took the cup. He thanked God for it and gave it to the followers. He said, “Every one of you drink this. This is my blood, which begins the new agreement that God makes with his people. This blood is poured out for many to forgive their sins.”
